Life is precious.

Today I got some really heartbreaking news. My old youth pastor, the man that married Brendan and I, has a younger sister whom I met around 8th grade. I didn't know her for a very long time, but knew that she was a really wonderful girl (I really love the whole family), and got married about two years ago.

Last night her husband went to be with Jesus. From what I know, everything was very sudden and unexpected. He apparently wasn't feeling well at all so they called the ambulance and he died before he even made it to the hospital.

I didn't know him at all, but from what I hear he was an awesome guy, really on fire for God. This really just hit me so hard because I cannot imagine what it must be like for Kristi, who just lost her new husband. I mean, this is the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with, have children with, grow old with. Her best friend (I know I didn't know him, but after going through Bear's pre-marital crash course, I can assure you, they were best friends). I just can't even wrap my mind around what a huge, huge loss this is for her.

It really makes you thankful for what you have and appreciate every day because we don't know when we'll take our last breath here on earth. I'm sure Anthony didn't.

But it also reminds me of how awesome it is that as Christians, death is nothing to fear. It's really hard for me to put into words how incredible it is that death isn't the end at all, and that Jesus defeated it. It's just such an awesome hope, that we only have to be sad for a little while because this life is so short in comparison to eternity.

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."Revelation 21:4

"When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: 'Death has been swallowed up in victory.'
'Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?' The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."1 Chorinthians 15:54-56
