Misc.

It's been a while, I know. As evident by the pictures randomly scattered around this post, I did finally get to the caramel cake. It was a fabulous a recipe, even just for the batter, and I'm sure I'll use it again. But time for the true test: did I actually deliver?

Well...kinda. The icing was excellent. I've never made homemade caramel before, which was incorporated into the icing, hence the name of the cake. It was fun to make and even more fun to sample. I purposefully iced the cake while it was still warm to get that glazed look, which I thought turned out pretty nice. The icing was sweet but not too sweet, which I was afraid of, so that was a success.

The filling was a little disappointing. I wanted it to be a little bit more gooey and filling-y. It ended up just kind of seeping into the bottom layer of the cake, which I think it was supposed to do, but next time I'm going to tweak it.

Ok so now about the cake itself- per my usual faux pas habit lately, I left it in the oven a little too long, so it wasn't very moist. There is nothing I hate more than a dry cake, so this was kind of a deal breaker. I guess I've been so paranoid about under cooking things that I've been over doing it .

So lesson learned.

There will be more cakes to come, but for now it's more running and less cake baking (i.e. cake eating), which is a nice segway into my next little update. Brendan and I are training to do the Cooper River Bridge run this coming spring. When I say Brendan and I, I should say maybe Brendan and definitely I, because I've been going for these little runs myself lately. So we'll see.

Anyway, it's 6.2 miles which is really enough to make me want to puke if I think about it too hard, so I try not to think and just do. I've definitely got my work cut out for me, but it'll be a cool accomplishment since running isn't really my thing, so expect updates on that.

Excuse the random cake pictures. I've been staring at a computer screen all day, so formatting everything correctly (something else I've been doing all day) is not something I feel like doing right now.

Segway numero dos: I got a new job! Hooray! I stared with Book Surge On Demand Publishing, which is a subsidiary of Amazon.com. I'm working as a PDF Account Manager and couldn't be more excited. This job is really a dream come true for me. It's an industry that I love, and I'm doing something that I actually went to college for, so I'm psyched. Plus the people totally rock and I get to wear basically whatever I want. So of course I use that as an excuse to buy new shoes.

Jeans, heels, and books. What more could a girl ask for?

Oh yeah, we have this totally cool coffee machine that makes whatever individual coffee you want (actual good coffee, which is more than a lot of work places can say).

Sweet! Alright, random I know, but that's all for now.
