I think it's safe to say that summer is here, at least in Charleston. June is a funny month here. The days start out warm and muggy, and about midday, we get either a ominous storm or sunny shower. I'd say this happens at least 20 out of the 30 days of the month.
Weekends are either spent at the pool, the beach (which is always graced by a welcome breeze) or rained in, reading, playing Scrabble, or doing those necessary evils like laundry or cleaning the floorboards.
I love June in Charleston. I love that summer comes just a little early here and takes it's time to leave in September. The daily showers can create less desirable circumstances when you leave the office for lunch and it's sunny, and when you get back, you face a treacherous dash from your car back to the lobby. But then, the drive over the bridge from Mt. Pleasant to Daniel Island makes it all worth it. The trees are so lush and full and verdant. The contrast with the gray-blue sea and gold sea grass is sunning and the veil of humidity strangely accentuates it all.
Tonight after dinner Brendan and I sat out on our porch for a good half-an-hour sipping sweet tea and soaking in the thick summer air. Yes, the air conditioning units were noisy, blasting at full speed, but what would you expect. It's summertime in Charleston, and I gotta say, the livin' is easy.
This makes me want to move down south! Sounds so idyllic!
