So long friend...

I feel like I'm making a habit of referring to inanimate objects as friends. Oh well. I like being friendly. In this case, the friend that we are parting with is my trusty little Civic. I like to call her the Kitten. In her life, the Kitten took me many places: down to Rock Hill for college, from Charlotte to Rock Hill (sometimes multiple trips a day), from Charlotte to Annapolis, from Annapolis to New York / Jersey City (and Philli and the way), and many, many times from Rock Hill to Clemson. She's seen a lot in her 130,000 miles.

Why am I eulogizing the Kitten, you ask?

Let me start from the beginning. Brendan e-mailed me this picture on April Fools, trying to convince me that he'd been in an accident:

Obviously, this not our car, nor is it the location he said it was, so his prank failed.

Yesterday around five o'clock he called and told me he'd been in accident and to meet him in the parking lot of Five Loaves. He said it so calmly, and naturally, given the prank he tried to pull two weeks ago, I had my doubts. Five Loaves is one of my favorite places to eat, so I thought maybe he was trying to be sneaky about taking me out to eat. I asked him if was trying to pull one over on me because I had a meeting at seven, so tonight was really not a good night to go out for dinner. He just calmly told me that he wasn't lying so I grabbed my purse and headed to Mt. Pleasant, still wondering if he was telling the truth. Looking back, I'm not sure why it would have made much sense for him to be lying, but he tries to trick me all the time.

But when I saw the Kitten I knew he was telling the truth. A Chevy Avalanche had run into the back of her and pushed her into the car in front of her too. She looked more like a Smart Car than a Civic. Her front end was all messed up too and her wheels where pinned in. Poor Kitten.

I'm pretty sure she's totaled and will have to be replaced. Before, we were thinking that in about a year, we'd give her to one of my brothers and get a new one, but obviously we are not plans have changed.

Brendan has all the pictures on his phone right now, but the Kitten is really torn up. I write this light-heatedly because I'm really not worried about a new car. God always takes care of us. I'm just thankful that Brendan wasn't hurt. All the police officers where surprised that he just had a little scratch on his face. I'm really thankful that this is only a eulogy for a car. It could have been so much worse.
