Happy 4th of July!
Our first holiday as a married couple! Fourth of July at the Mendenhall's was pretty low-key this time around. Being our first weekend back from the honeymoon, we were still pretty wiped out. We really underestimated the jet lag from being in Hawaii. We slept in super late (which always wonderful!), and then went for a little bike ride around the island to check out the local festivities. I wish I would have had my camera because I have never seen so many beautifully decorated homes or adorable little patriotic children. Our pool was absolutely packed, so instead of stopping to join the crowd, we opted to continue our bike ride.
And that is another reason I wish I would have brought my camera. I know I will sound like the worst wife ever as I tell this story, but I'm sorry! I couldn't help it! Brendan and I were riding one of the same paths that we ride almost every day. Being his typical self, he thought it would be cute to "jump" a little hole in the dirt. Instead of jumping it, he pulled his front wheel up too soon. His bike stopped in the hole, but his body kept going. It went right over the handle bars, to be exact.
Of course I ran to him immediately to see if he alright (which he was), but I was so in shock over what I was seeing (his feet ever so slowly going over his head, as his bike fell right over top of him) because he never does anything this clumsy.
He was fine, a little scratched up, but laughing at how hilarious it must have looked (which believe me, it did), and hopped up. Luckily for him, no one else was on the trail at the time.
After such an eventful bike ride, we thought it best to head home for some hot dogs, hamburgers, and delightfully patriotic cup cakes. We didn't really go all out this year, but I have high hopes for next year. Daniel Island is a fabulous place to spend the 4th, so if anyone wants to join us next year....:)
